We thought it was about time @50shadesisabuse got our own website as we have been tweeting about the domestic abuse in the Fifty Shades trilogy for years. We are sure with the release of the film on Valentines Day 2015 that we will have a lot to say and may not be able to do it in 140 characters.
Thanks to all our followers support so far and lets hope 2014 brings more awareness of domestic abuse.
I have no intention of reading 50 shades, but I understand how it reflects a side of bdsm that a certain type of predator thrives on. There are many out there who call themselves 'doms' and who use the bdsm scene to veil their abusive nature.
A true dom/sub relationship relys on respect, kindness and trust. It should be a relationship of equality, and never controlled through fear, manipulation or any kind of mental or physical abuse.
The 50 shades trilogy has brought the scene into the mainstream, and has a responsability to educate people on the difference between abuse and 'healthy' deviance.
It is essential that sites like this serve to educate and raise awareness so that victims recognise that this kind of behaviour is a glorified form of domestic abuse. Keep up the good work.
